I am a documentary family photographer based in the Metro Phoenix Area. I was born and raised in China. Now I am married to my awesome husband and we have three energetic kids 5 and under at home. For as long as I can remember, my family always had a camera at home. Perhaps it was because that my grandma was a documentary film editor in China, I had the luxury to have my life well documented growing up. I also got the cool opportunity to watch a lot of documentaries that my grandma was working on while playing with some of her scrap films. We have shelves of photo albums at my parents home. It is still one of my favorite things to flip through those albums and talk about the stories behind each photo. Some photos have started to fade away so my parents recently scanned all of the photos to preserve them. I am so glad that now I get to look at these photos often and show them to my kids without having to travel all the way back to China. I grew up and I had my own camera. I went on my own adventures. I went to Europe and I came to the United States. I was trying to absorb and remember as much as I could what this new world looked like. I took a lot of landscape photos. Then I realized it is the human beings that make things more interesting for me. Especially now that I have kids myself, I’m experiencing plot twists on a daily basis. What a thrill! I’m always taking photos of my family these days. I want to see my life through different lenses and different angles, literally. I want to have amazing photographs to help me remember what my life is like and how I feel when I am with my family right now. I want my children to know how much I love them every single day. I want my children to see that while our daily life is nothing too fancy, our life has been a real interesting journey for us all. It’s unlikely that I will forget those once in a life time events in the future. However, I know as a matter of fact that without any documentation, the tender feelings, the seemingly never ending motherhood frustrations, the unexpected chuckles from my daily mundane will definitely fade away. I want to hold onto these fleeting memories for myself and for my children. Also, I have been trying really hard to find records for my family histories but it has been difficult since keeping a good family tree is no longer as much of a tradition these days in China. So I am hoping to make my kids’ life easier when it comes to our family history from this point on.
Documentary/Photojournalism approach mostly– telling the best real stories in real life just as they are.
Light and Shadows. And the day to day dramas at home.
I would love to hold myself accountable to have continuous growth in my photography skills. Also I would love to help others to learn to be more intentional when it comes to photography and life in general. This way both I myself and the community around me can really see the and treasure the real life we are in. Especially this year with everything being absolutely crazy, it can be really easy to feel un-inspired. Hopefully, I can lead by example to find inspiration from our day to day life. As cliche as it might sound, I really do believe that we all have unique stories that are worth telling and lots of people can benefit from such stories. I also do believe that when I am given this talent of visual story telling, I should be using my skills to do good and to inspire and uplift people around me. Hopefully I am able to reach a broader audience to share my thoughts and way of living a creative life.
I’m a wife, a mom of teenagers, and human to a nine month old puppy. Rarely does a day go by that I don’t take at least one photo, and I am dazzled by Lensbaby blur and golden light. I look forward to joining the HS community!
I’m a seeker of all the flowers and quiet moments.
Light, colors, and being in nature.
To meet more photograpers and build new friendships.
I am from Carnoustie, Scotland. I am a mum of a 4 year old girl who was born via surrogacy after a cancer diagnosis. I took up photography as a hobby when I was sick and fell in love with it, currently a hobbyist that is looking to go professional next year as I have started to take on some clients now. I love naps, pizza, wine and staying up late, hence the love of naps ( not like I get them, but I can wish).
My style in photography is lifestyle, I am drawn to creating a mood or story with mostly 1 subject by either isolating the subject or using creative composition.
Trying to create something from simplicity, using composition, light etc. I love capturing everyday moments and still life and trying to evoke a mood or story from it. Other peoples art also inspires me, I love to see an image from an other artist and think how I would portray it.
To be part of a creative community that can inspire me and build relationships with like-minded people. I am also keen to do some teaching in macro, I love creative macro and I would love to share more BTS and creative tips.
I consider myself a kid at heart. I LOVE learning about photography just as much as doing it. After several years of consuming photography education, both online and in person, I am now wanting to give back.
Like I said above, I am a kid at heart that takes a sophisticated approach to photography.
The fleeting nature of childhood. Every person on the planet has been shaped by the experience of their own childhood. I like to think I’m positively shaping my children’s experience of their own childhood by using my lens to craft a beautiful story.
I attended a brick and mortar photography school (Brooks Institute), assisted and retouched for a well-known photographer (Bambi Cantrell), and ran my own photography studio for several years before COVID. I am also a mom of 4 who wants to use photography and video to tell my families story. I have two beautiful daughters (age 7 and 4) and recently had boy/girl twins. My son has Down syndrome and will be having heart surgery next month and I want to push myself creatively to tell his story in an uplifting and positive way.
I am a mum, wife and a scientist! I have a PhD in Neuroscience and i am currently leading on the Covid testing response for one of London Universities. I am a hobbyist photographer and mainly capture our day to day lives (3 months into my second 365). My main motivation is for the memories, but i also love learning and stretching myself and i can’t wait to see where photography takes me next. Before children I travelled a lot (a highlight was trekking to see the gorillas in the wild in Rwanda) and i imagine that as my children grow up (and we are able to travel more again) i will integrate more travel/landscape photography into my work.
Lifestyle/storytelling. I aim to capture our family every day moments. I love to use hard or strong directional light and try to capture authentic moments.
My children, beautiful light and the moments that I want to capture as memories for myself and my family.
I’m excited to be applying to Hello Artist at the moment, but would be keen to progress to Hello Pro and learn to teach, support and inspire others.
I’m a mama of 2, and a newborn and family photographer based in Oxfordshire, UK.
Photography became an addiction after starting a family, along with caffeine and biscuits. When I’m not taking and editing photos, you’ll find me on Pinterest redesigning my home and annoying my husband with new projects.
Emotive everyday moments inspired by childhood and connection.
My photography is inspired by everyday moments – playtime, outdoor adventures, tickles and shoulder carries from Daddy. And all the little details like their hands and feet, my daughter’s wild hair and toothless smile. These are the things I want to remember in years to come.
As a self-taught photographer, it would be such an incredible achievement to be part of your community. This has been a personal goal for some time.
