This month, the Hello Storyteller Traveling Project chose the theme: CAPE
Not all heroes wear capes. This is such a wonderful reminder. I believe that we all at one point in life we all wear a cape, we all take on the role as a hero to some. However, I do believe that we often struggle to see our self worth and the value we are to others, whether it is in our role as a child, parent, friend, co-worker or even as a photographer.
Superman, Spiderman, Wonderwoman… are all heroes with magical powers that we can look up to and idealize. We see children dress up and pretend they are heroes. Social media bring a new dimension to the phrase heroes, and we also have “influencers” that are idealized.
As a photographer it is so easy to get caught up in the social media, the feeling of inferiority and not being good enough, the never ending count of likes. We look at the influencers in the photography community, some of them idealized and wearing that invisible hero cape. The reality is that no matter if you have 10 likes or 10k likes, we are all heroes in our own way. A hero is measured in your act of kindness or a selfless deed and not a number. By establishing a community built on our ability to support each other, to show kindness and encouragement, we will continue to raise each other up and we can all be each others hero.
A group of Hello Creative members got together with the idea to photograph using a cape, we wanted to see how we can all take inspiration and be creative. This community and these photographers are all my heroes.
