As a photographer, the topic of mini sessions is pretty polarizing. You either hate them or love them. As someone who built their business using mini sessions, it’s clear to see – I love them. I have found mini sessions to be a fantastic springboard to both generate reliable income multiple times a year, year after year and also be an avenue to business growth. I’m going to share with you how to maximize the mini session. Let’s talk about the reasons mini sessions are beneficial:
Mini sessions provide photographers the opportunity to play around with different styles, themes and locations. They put the photographers in a position where they need to think on their feet, adapt to different lighting and learn how to really get the most out of their posing and prompts. The process of running mini sessions helps photographers to sharpen their skills, engages their problem-solving abilities and gives them repetitive practice with photographic techniques.
Mini sessions are appealing to clients for a variety of factors – the top reasons being cost and amount of time. Photography is a luxury item. It’s not a necessity and people don’t NEED to have professional photos taken. Mini sessions are enticing due to their structure. The benefit to offering them is that photographers can attract a wider audience. Such as busy professionals and families with young children. Offering mini sessions can allow you to expand your client base. When you provide that expanded base with a 5 star client experience and a gallery chock full of images they love, they will a) be more willing to invest in a full session and b) they will naturally refer you to other people based on their experience working with you.
Mini sessions are an excellent way for photographers to increase their revenue streams. The structure of mini sessions allows for volume. That way, you can take on multiple sessions in one day, which maximizes your earning potential. The secret (in my opinion) to mini sessions is in the upsell. Through additional digital images, print packages, albums or other products.
So now that I’ve run through all the benefits of mini sessions and have gotten you thinking (hopefully) about running them, let me take you all the way to the finish line.
My new course “Maximize the Mini Session” is a roadmap on how to plan, market, execute and upsell your mini session clients to be able to a) capture the “white whale” – RELIABLE INCOME as a photographer and b) build, grow and expand your business.
