The Traveling Lensbaby Project | Lensbaby Sol 45 with Melissa Richard
July 21, 2020
Hello Storyteller is excited to announce the Traveling Lensbaby Project! We have several Lensbabies circulating around the globe, and our Hello Pro Creatives are excited to share their unique art with our community. A few of our Hello Pros already owned these lenses, so we are letting them in on the project as well. Our first submission is from the incredible Melissa Richard with the Lensbaby Sol 45!
“I bought a Lensbaby Sol 45 lens last Summer for my Nikon D750. When it first arrived, I tested it out and realized right away there would be a learning curve. Life got in the way with work and family life, so the lens got put back in my camera bag and forgotten about. Fast forward to this Summer, I had the opportunity and time to pull it back out. I dove right into it, and quickly found my sweet spot with it.”
“I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly it was to get used to. The hardest part for me was going back to manually focusing, and getting used to the fixed f-stop at f/3.5. I wear glasses, (and don’t have contacts) so I have a hard time with manually focusing. I always back button focus on my D750 and my Sony A7iii.”
“Since I am an open wide shooter, the blurred out effect with the slice of focus is what I crave and love. I experimented with it inside and outside. I love the lens flare it creates when the sun is out. I also love the interesting bokeh it creates when my kids are playing with water, or with bubbles. This lens also has 2 bokeh blades you can swing out in front of it. The blades help shape the bokeh and gives it a little more added texture. I don’t find myself using them when I shoot, but I do like having the option. Now I don’t see myself using this as my “everyday” lens however, I think it is perfect for moody portraits (I happen to shoot these quite frequently). I also think it is the perfect lens to pull out when you are needing a creative nudge.”
What I love about this lens:
It’s very small/compact fits nicely in my camera bag, my camera is very light with this lens on it.
It is affordable.
It’s versatile.
The flare it creates.
The bokeh it creates, the extra bokeh blades
The artistic/creative feel the tilt shift feature creates.
Small learning curve (easy to use).
It’s made well (great quality).
Stay tuned for more Lensbaby adventures with the Sol 45, Burnside 35, Velvet 56 and Omni System as we travel with these amazing lenses!
Are they still offering a discount on the lens?
