Give me change. Give me different. Give me living, not just existing. | By Janel Peyton

Thank you so much for the insightful read. There are some things I relate to with your viewpoints and especially the nonconformist approach to being an artist. Much like you, I started a home-biz in design services. But I didn’t take my own photos then. I was too busy beating the streets obtaining advertisers for a local magazine I published monthly … by myself. I was my only employer. Then I became very sick and had to sell “my baby”, my successful business of over 20 years because of the deadlines and pressure of working in that environment. It was crazy, hard work, and I loved it! Soon after I sold my biz and realized I wasn’t able to go out on my terms, the depression set in. Realizing I wasn’t creating anything anymore but my own daily pity parties, I turned to photography. Being that I never know from hour to hour how my body is going to feel and/or fail me, this seemed like a pefect fit. On good days, I go shoot whatever I’m in the mood for. Whatever strikes me as the unusual, the ordinary things that most people look past never thinking of it again and turning those images into something extraordinary. Then came the grand babies. That was a turning point for me. Not knowing how much longer I’ll be on this earth and wanting to make a positive impact on my grandchildren, my photography took a sight turn into documenting our times together, shooting what makes me me. This is the legacy I will leave to my children and grandchildren so they will always know more about me and remember those moments of us. So, thank you. Thank you for helping me see that I’m not alone with bucking all of the “but you have to do this to be successful” conformities society places upon us. You struck a personal cord in this feature and I can’t thank you enough. I don’t know you personally, but I get you. And, I bet you’d get me. Fondly respecting your amazing work and super glad I learned about you – I’m your new fan!
