December 8, 2020
Hello Storyteller is excited to continue with our next installment of the Traveling Lensbaby Project! We have several Lensbabies circulating around the globe, and our Hello Creatives are excited to share their unique art with our community. Our next submission is from the incredible Hollie Jeakins with the Lensbaby Burnside 35!
“I had the opportunity to try out the Lensbaby Burnside 35 lens this past week as part of the Hello Storyteller Traveling Lens project. The Lensbaby Burnside 35 is known for surrounding your subject in swirly bokeh. It has a gold slider that allows you to control how much (or little) vignette is added into the frame. I tested this lens both indoor and outdoors to see what results I could get.”“In my usage, I found the effect to be much more subdued while indoors. The lens produced a lovely blur but the swirl effect was much calmer because of the solid background I shot against. If you find the swirl effect overpowering, try shooting against a simple, plain background. “The Burnside 35 was a lot of fun outdoors especially with the changing fall colours and falling leaves. When it came time to selecting and editing, I did end up finding some of the images being too busy for my tastes. The full swirl combined with all the autumn colours and all the fallen leaves made for one busy scene! I do believe with practice, I would better be able to utilize the swirl in a way that works for my images and storytelling. The swirl adds a bit of a magical whimsical element that I do really love. ”“The Burnside 35 was a lot of fun outdoors especially with the changing fall colours and falling leaves. If I had more time with this lens, I would love to see where my images woul lead to.I hope you enjoyed hearing about my experience with the Lensbaby Burnside 35 Traveling Lensbaby Lens. If you have any questions about the lens please don’t hesitate to leave a message for me. ”— Hollie Jeakins Stay tuned for more Lensbaby adventures with the Sol 45, Burnside 35, Velvet 56 and Omni System as we travel with these amazing lenses!
