Part 1: with Abi Coop
Immersed in Nature: Storytelling in Nature Photography
Wherever you live and whatever the season, there is natural beauty all around us. Whether it’s a tiny insect, a pretty country stream, a majestic sunset or anything else within the entire nature genre, we can take photographs to capture snippets of this abundant beauty. In this course you’ll discover how those images can tell visually compelling stories. Images immersed in nature that viewers will stop and take notice of, be drawn in to and emotionally stirred by.
Learn how your gear and your choices in settings and composition, along with the light and colours in the scene, all play a part in bringing the story together. Abi shows you how you can push your creativity with photography adding movement, blur and magic to your images. She walks through how she edits her nature images. She brings them to life and enhances what’s already there, whilst retaining the perfectly imperfect details that make each natural element so unique. Abi encourages you to spend time outdoors. To slow down and observe your surroundings. To take in all the sights, sounds and smells. And to consider the light, the colours and the textures before shooting. She explains how this will benefit both your photography and your well-being.

Immersed in Nature: Photographing the Wanderlust Child
It is a well documented fact that spending time in nature has countless health benefits. Reduced stress levels, lower heart rate and blood pressure and improved mood. Now throw some kids into the mix and the whole dynamic changes. Between the tantrums, upset tummies from eating their body weight in blackberries and soaking wet socks from puddle jumping you may find yourself even more stressed than when you began! Still, there is so much fun to be had by dragging your kids away from their devices and letting them explore our beautiful world.
Sam takes us through her thought process when faced with an unfamiliar location. She shares how to stay calm as you think through your final image, whilst also wrangling the kids. She shows us how we, as the memory keepers of the family, can use the equipment available to us and a variety of compositional techniques, perspectives, light and colour to add magic to any scenario. Sam explains her sources of inspiration. She reveals where you can go for unlimited and unique ideas. She explains in technical detail how to edit your images, making the most of the elements in the scene and telling an even deeper story.
