This month, it’s our pleasure to introduce you to the amazingly talented, Stacy Hammen!
I’m a wife and a mom to three WONDERFUL kids. I taught Kindergarten for 7 years before we started a family and like so many young moms, I realized how fast time moves. I wanted to capture everything I could….and got my first “big girl camera” 1999. Now that my kids have grown into teenagers, I fully realize how important it is to document it all. I love preserving the memories my family and clients hold dear. I’ve built my life around children and love to know them, celebrate them and photograph them. Photography is just something that feeds my soul in a way that the other creative outlets do not. I think it’s the idea that I can freeze a moment and save it forever that makes me so happy.
Capturing the Magic of Childhood / Holly Awwad & am about to take Welcome to Unscripted / Lauren Webster. I’ve also taken courses through Click Photo School.
I really appreciate the platform of support and guidance here at Hello Storyteller. It’s such a friendly and inclusive group. I’d absolutely love to attend the workshop but….ugh. It sold out before I could commit. I’m so inspired by the artists here and seeing their journeys makes me want to grow more as an artist myself.
I’ve been working hard on shooting in low light. Mastery isn’t a term I’ll likely ever use to describe my work but I’m beginning to feel more confident as I shoot with intention and from my heart.
What are your 3 favorite images (or session series) you have shot this year and share the story about them?
My kids are teenagers so they no longer want to play my silly photography games so this sweet little darling has become my muse. Her name is Sommer and she’s got a way about her…it’s equal parts sweet + sass, ease + intense, serious + silly. During quiet season, it’s fun to have our weekly camera dates. She certainly keeps me on my toes & I’ve come to realize how good we are for one another. She works willingly for ice cream cones and loves long walks on the trails. We went out to our favorite spot one warm winter evening and she told me all about a boy in her class named Lewis. When I asked her what she likes about Lewis….she grabbed that scarf, swayed back and forth and just gave me that big grin. I was also testing out a new camera body (Nikon D810) and 135mm lens. I had accidentally left the shooting settings on JPEG so that was a bummer but I think I’m going to LOVE the 135mm focal length so much.
