lesson: enhancing window light in lightroom | by jamie eilts

Hello Everyone! Jamie Eilts back on the blog again today! As part of our blog introductions, we thought it would be fun to share a short lesson with you all. I have so many things I am anxious to teach and share, but for today, I thought I would just show you a quick way to enhance the natural light from a window.
For those of you who don’t know me, I live in central Illinois with my husband and three young children. We have long, cold winters here in my neck of the woods, so I get lots of practice shooting inside from November to April(ish). One of my favorite places to shoot indoors is next to a window. I love how the soft light from the window highlights the subject and then the shadows fall off behind. It creates such a nice contrast in an image.
I have a trick I often do in Lightroom to enhance window light in my photos and really make it pop. In the space between the subject and the window, I use a custom brush or radial filter, and I paint with that brush in the direction that the light would be streaming. The brush has a little added exposure and warmth and decreased clarity and dehaze. I play with the feather/flow of the brush or filter on each individual photo to get the look I want to achieve.

I’ve made a video that shares my exact process and settings for my brush. Hope this was helpful, and let me know if you have any questions!
Really great tip, thank you for sharing
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for reading!
